What We Do
Throughout each school year, the UVSMEA organizes and hosts many different types of opportunities for its members and for the community.
BCMEA Conference
The BCMEA Conference is the annual professional development opportunity of the British Columbia Music Educators' Association. The UVSMEA travels to the River Rock Resort for three full days of clinics, networking, and lots of learning.

Music Discoveries
Music Discoveries is a weekend-long day camp for middle school students, run entirely by UVSMEA members and volunteers. Members take part in the organizational process and behind-the-scenes work as well as hands-on positions working with students in small groups, large ensembles, and CYOA bands.

Bandfest
BandFest is a non-competitive concert band festival that occurs annually at the University of Victoria's beautiful Farquar Auditorium. Elementary, Middle School, Junior and Senior Secondary School bands from across Canada and the United States will perform on our stage and receive an adjudication/workshop from some of the finest wind band conductors/adjudicators in Canada and the US. UVSMEA members work closely with the administration team to coordinate the festival, and many more volunteer as band guides, stage crew, adjudicators' assistance and mc's. Bandfest is a great opportunity to meet ensembles from the area and learn about the workings of a festival.
UVSMEA Retreat
Each year, the UVSMEA membership spends a weekend together participating in clinics and teamwork activities together. This year we will be travelling to the beautiful Camp Pringle on Shawnigan Lake for lots of learning and fun, and a break from school and the city.
Clinics
The UVSMEA brings in clinicians from all over North America to educate our students on unique subjects within the realm of music education. Whether during our regular Wednesday meetings, or on special occasions such as on retreat, UVSMEA members have the chance to take part in hands-on clinics with experts in the field.
